FOREX.com Review 2026: Costs, Safety, Platforms and Who It Suits
The 60-Second Decision
FOREX.com is best suited to active forex traders who want a choice of proprietary and third-party platforms, research tools and access to several regulated entities. Its pricing combines spread-only accounts with a RAW Spread option that adds commission.
The main trade-off is that costs, leverage, product access and protections depend on the legal entity serving you. Before choosing an account, check the terms for your jurisdiction and compare spread, commission, overnight financing and conversion costs together.

Broker Profile
| Dimension | Profile |
|---|---|
| Main business model | Market maker. |
| Product focus | Forex, indices, commodities, stock CFDs, cryptocurrencies and bonds, subject to entity and regional availability. |
| Pricing model | Hybrid: spread-only pricing on Standard accounts and RAW spreads with commission on RAW Spread accounts. Equity products may have separate charges. |
| Automation support | MT4 and MT5 Expert Advisors, API trading and platform integrations. VPS hosting is available to qualifying MT4/MT5 clients. |
| Typical customer | Active and experienced forex traders who value regulation, research and platform choice. |
| Regulation structure | Multi-entity, with regulators and client protections depending on jurisdiction. |
| Trading complexity | High: account pricing, leverage, product scope and safeguards vary by entity, and some account types add commission or financing costs. |
What materially distinguishes it?
- Entity-dependent trading conditions
- Leverage, products, fees and client protections change with the contracting entity, so traders need to check the local terms rather than assume one global account setup.
- Hybrid forex pricing
- The choice between spread-based Standard pricing and RAW spreads with commission lets traders compare different cost structures against their own trading frequency and typical position size.
- Automation and platform choice
- MT4 and MT5 Expert Advisors, API access and VPS hosting support systematic trading; TradingView and the proprietary mobile platform serve other workflows.

What We Tested — and What We Didn't
Tested directly
- Registration: In our test, account setup was generally straightforward, although repeated document requests sometimes extended the process.
- Identity verification: We could not use the account until we submitted additional documents; a support agent explained what was required.
- Withdrawal: We could not withdraw more than $5,000 because the original funding bank had left the US. After we were told another verified account was approved, the withdrawal was blocked again.
- Web platform: The interface was clean and suited to day trading or longer-term use.
- Desktop platform: We could use MetaTrader alongside the FOREX.com account for a simpler trading setup.
- Live chat: A human agent patiently helped us restore access to a MetaTrader account.
Verified from primary sources
The legal-entity section identifies the relevant regulator, licence reference and regulator-register link for the jurisdictions covered. The account, pricing and protection terms described elsewhere are entity-dependent and should be checked against the terms that apply to the client.
Not independently verified
We did not independently measure execution speed, slippage or rejection rates, or verify liquidity and institutional-execution claims. Slippage can be positive or negative, and price improvement is possible.

What Does It Actually Cost?
Account Pricing
| Account | Minimum Spread | Commission | Minimum Deposit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | Standard spread pricing; instrument-specific | Forex is generally commission-free; costs are built into the spread. | No universal minimum published |
| RAW Spread | From 0.0 pips on FX major pairs | Forex commission applies; published schedules differ by entity, with rates cited at $5–$7 per 100,000 units. | No universal minimum published |
| MetaTrader | Uses Standard pricing; instrument-specific | Standard pricing; instrument-specific. | No universal minimum published |
The spreads are floating. A minimum spread is not the same as a typical spread: the RAW Spread account starts from 0.0 pips on major FX pairs, but commission is added and actual costs depend on the instrument and legal entity. FOREX.com quotes average spreads of 0.8 pips for EUR/USD and 1.8 pips for GBP/USD.
The headline minimum deposit is $100. Account-specific minimum deposits are not universal across the Standard, RAW Spread and MetaTrader accounts. Share CFDs also incur commission; the applicable rate depends on the share market and entity.
What the Headline Number Doesn't Tell You
RAW spreads from 0.0 pips
Advertised spread: From 0.0 pips on major FX pairs.
What that doesn't tell you:
The RAW Spread account adds a commission, and the schedule differs by regulated entity. Compare the spread and commission together rather than treating the minimum spread as the full trading cost.
Non-Trading Costs
| Fee | Amount | Conditions |
|---|---|---|
| Deposit | - | - |
| Withdrawal | - | - |
| Inactivity | FOREX.com charges $15 (or base-currency equivalent; regional amounts differ) per month after 12 months with no trading activity/open positions. | Triggered by the inactivity period and account conditions stated here: FOREX.com charges $15 (or base-currency equivalent; regional amounts differ) per month after 12 months with no trading activity/open positions. |
| Currency conversion | Trades settling in another currency can incur a Back-to-Base conversion charge; the US schedule cites about ±1.0% from the market rate, while other entities can differ. | Currency-conversion conditions: Trades settling in another currency can incur a Back-to-Base conversion charge; the US schedule cites about ±1.0% from the market rate, while other entities can differ. |
Cost most worth watching
For traders holding positions overnight, financing can accumulate and differs by instrument and position direction. Frequent traders should also compare the RAW Spread commission with the Standard account's spread-based cost, using the schedule for their own entity.
Overnight financing applies to positions held through the market close, typically 5 PM ET. Charges can be positive or negative; a three-day swap is charged on Wednesdays to account for weekend settlement. Islamic accounts are described as swap-free and are usually available on request after opening a Standard account.
04
Is FOREX.com Regulated and Safe?
Legal Entity Map
| Regulator | License Number | Jurisdiction | Main Protections |
|---|---|---|---|
| ASIC | AFSL 345646 | Australian clients | Australian retail CFD rules apply where the client is retail, including leverage limits, margin close-out and negative-balance protections; professional-client treatment differs. |
| CFTC | 0339826 | United States clients | US futures/retail-forex rules apply; product scope differs from CFD entities. Futures/forex accounts do not receive the same protections as securities accounts. |
| CIRO | CIRO Investment Dealer | Canadian clients | Canadian investment-dealer rules apply; product availability, margin and investor-protection arrangements follow Canadian requirements and differ from offshore CFD entities. |
| CySEC | 400/21 | EEA / Cyprus | Cyprus/EEA MiFID framework applies. Retail leverage/product rules and investor-protection/complaint arrangements differ from offshore entities; compensation eligibility depends on the entity and client. |
| FCA | 113942 | United Kingdom clients | UK FCA framework applies to this entity. Retail-client leverage/product rules, client-money safeguards and complaint/compensation routes can differ from offshore entities; eligibility rules apply. |
| MAS | MAS Capital Markets Services licence | Singapore clients | Singapore regulatory framework applies. Available products, eligibility and client-money/custody rules follow the Singapore entity and can differ from other group entities. |
| NFA | 0339826 | United States clients | US futures/retail-forex rules apply; product scope differs from CFD entities. Futures/forex accounts do not receive the same protections as securities accounts. |
Why the entity matters
The legal entity determines which products are available, the leverage limits that apply and the client-protection framework. For example, retail major-FX leverage is generally capped at 30:1 under UK/EU rules, while US retail forex leverage is capped at 50:1. Some instruments have lower limits, and professional-client treatment can differ.
FOREX.com says retail client funds are held separately from corporate funds. Negative balance protection applies to some retail clients, particularly in jurisdictions where it is required, but it is not universal and may not apply to US clients or professional accounts. Eligible StoneX Europe Ltd retail clients may have Cyprus ICF cover up to €20,000; UK clients may also have FSCS cover, subject to eligibility. Regulation and these safeguards do not remove trading or counterparty risk.

What Can You Actually Trade?
| Asset Class | Available | Approx. Number | Maximum Retail Leverage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Forex | Yes | 80 | 1:30 |
| Crypto | Yes | 12 | N/A |
| Stocks | Yes | 4500 | 1:5 |

| Commodities | Yes | 26 | 1:20 |
| ETFs | No | Not Offered | - |
| Options | No | Not Offered | - |
| Bonds | Yes | 12 | 1:5 |
Where the range is strongest
The range includes 4,500 stocks, primarily through share CFDs, and 80 forex instruments. A share CFD gives price exposure rather than ownership of the shares or voting rights. Indices and commodities are also generally accessed through leveraged derivatives.
Where it is limited
ETFs and a standard retail options product are not offered. Crypto exposure is generally through derivatives rather than ownership of coins in a wallet, and availability can be restricted by jurisdiction. Product counts and access differ across legal entities; US accounts have a materially different product scope from non-US CFD entities.

Execution and Trading Conditions
FOREX.com is classified as a market maker. Maximum leverage depends on jurisdiction and instrument: the general maximum for major forex pairs ranges from 30:1 to 50:1, with US retail forex clients capped at 50:1 and UK/EU retail clients generally capped at 30:1. Instrument-level retail limits include 1:20 for indices and commodities and 1:5 for stocks and bonds where offered.
The margin call level is 100% and the stop-out level is 50%. Margin closeout varies by account and platform; some MetaTrader accounts may use a 100% closeout level. Leverage magnifies potential gains and losses.
Scalping and news trading are allowed. Hedging is generally available outside the US, while US NFA rules require FIFO and prohibit holding opposing positions in the same pair. Negative balance protection depends on jurisdiction and client classification; it is not universal.
Slippage can be positive or negative, and price improvement is possible. FOREX.com also offers guaranteed stop-loss options, which may carry a premium. Overnight financing applies to positions held through the market close and varies by instrument and position direction.

Before You Open an Account
Check these three things first
- Your legal entity: Confirm the contracting entity, regulator, leverage limits and client protections that apply in your country.
- Your likely trading cost: Compare the spread and commission for your account and instrument, then include overnight financing and any currency conversion charges.
- Your product/account requirements: Check that the entity offers the instruments and platforms you need, and confirm the account's pricing and minimum funding terms.
Bottom line
FOREX.com is primarily suited to active forex traders who value platform choice and research. The main reason to consider another setup is that products, costs, leverage and protections depend on the legal entity serving you.
