ActivTrades Review 2026: Costs, Safety, Platforms and Who It Suits

Written By: Elena Vargas

The 60-Second Decision

ActivTrades is a multi-asset CFD broker with a mostly spread-based pricing model, several trading platforms and regulatory entities in multiple jurisdictions. Its combination of MT4, MT5, TradingView and a proprietary browser platform gives traders a choice between established tools and ActivTrades’ own interface.

The main trade-off is that costs and protections depend on the account’s legal entity and product. Check the contracting entity, your applicable leverage limits and the fees for the instruments you expect to trade before funding an account.

Main business modelMarket maker offering leveraged forex and CFD trading.
Product focusForex, indices, commodities, stocks, ETFs and bonds.
Pricing modelFloating, spread-based pricing; most products are commission-free, with exceptions for certain products and clients.
Automation supportMT4 and MT5 Expert Advisors, TradingView research and alerts, and API trading support.
Typical customerTraders looking for multi-asset CFD access, platform choice and educational support.
Regulation structureMulti-entity, with regulators and protections depending on the client’s location and contracting entity.
Trading complexityMedium to high: leveraged CFDs, floating spreads, overnight financing and entity-specific conditions require active cost and risk management.

What materially distinguishes it?

Several regulatory entities
Clients may contract with different legal entities depending on location, so leverage, product access and protections are not necessarily the same across accounts.
Mostly spread-based pricing
Most products are commission-free, but share CFD commissions and other jurisdiction- or client-specific exceptions make instrument-by-instrument cost comparisons important.
Multiple automation routes
MT4 and MT5 support desktop Expert Advisors; ActivTrades also offers API trading and VPS hosting for clients meeting minimum trading-volume requirements.

What We Tested — and What We Didn't

Tested directly

  • We opened a live ActivTrades account in about one day; the process was straightforward.
  • We funded and withdrew from a live account. In the tested setup, several routes were available and there was no basic withdrawal fee, although bank-transfer charges can depend on entity and method.
  • We tested funding through bank transfer, cards, Neteller, Skrill, AstroPay and Sofort in a separate live-account setup. A bonus-condition question received conflicting answers from different support agents, which made that interaction frustrating.
  • We contacted live chat and generally received a responsive answer. In a separate interaction, agents gave conflicting answers about the same bonus condition.

Verified from primary sources

The FCA register identifies ActivTrades PLC as the UK entity under licence 434413. The Bahamas regulator’s cited register uses 199667 B as a company registration number for ActivTrades Corp; it is not the SCB securities-dealer licence number.

Not independently verified

We did not independently measure typical execution speed, slippage frequency, rejection rates or the performance of liquidity arrangements. Any execution-speed or liquidity descriptions should therefore be treated as broker claims, not as results established by our account testing.

ProfessionalFrom about 0.5 pips on major FXMost products are generally commission-free; product- and client-specific exceptions can apply. No minimum deposit generally; USD 250 in certain jurisdictions

Spreads are floating. The account minimums are starting levels, not a promise that the same spread will be available at all times. ActivTrades reports average spreads of 1.1 pips on EUR/USD and 1.5 pips on GBP/USD, compared with the account pricing figure of about 0.5 pips from major FX. Forex, indices and commodities are generally priced through the spread rather than a separate commission. Share CFDs are an important exception, with commissions starting from 0.10% of transaction value. Commission exceptions can also depend on jurisdiction and client type.

The general minimum deposit is zero, but some clients face a USD 250 minimum. Higher minimums may apply for users in Brazil and China, including R$100,000 for Brazil and USD 500 for China. A USD 1,000 minimum deposit is required to access Trading Central tools and the analytics plugin for MT4 and MT5. Funding in a currency different from the account base currency can also add conversion costs.

What the headline number doesn't tell you

About 0.5 pips on major FX: This is a minimum-spread figure, while ActivTrades’ stated EUR/USD and GBP/USD averages are 1.1 and 1.5 pips respectively. Forex is generally commission-free, but the spread remains a trading cost and can fluctuate.

No minimum deposit: This applies generally, not universally. Some jurisdictions have a USD 250 minimum, and higher minimums may apply in Brazil and China. Trading Central access also has its own USD 1,000 funding threshold.

InactivityA $10 monthly inactivity fee applies after 12 months of inactivity.Triggered by the inactivity period and account conditions stated here: A $10 monthly inactivity fee applies after 12 months of inactivity.
Currency conversionA currency-conversion cost or markup can apply when the deposit, withdrawal, instrument, profit/loss, or settlement currency differs from the account base currency. The exact rate usually depends on entity, product and conversion route.Applies when a deposit, withdrawal, instrument, P/L or settlement currency differs from the account base currency; rate varies by entity, product and conversion route.

Cost most worth watching

For active traders, compare the spread on the specific instrument with any applicable share CFD commission. For less active traders or accounts funded in a different currency, the 12-month inactivity charge and conversion fees can materially affect the balance even when there are few or no trades.

Positions held past the daily rollover time can incur or receive overnight financing. Rates depend on the instrument, position size and direction, market rates and holding period. ActivTrades also offers Islamic accounts; alternative administrative fees may apply after a grace period.

Why the entity matters

The contracting entity determines the regulatory framework for the account. ActivTrades PLC is the UK entity identified under FCA licence 434413. International clients may instead be served by ActivTrades Corp, subject to country restrictions. Leverage, product rules, safeguards and routes for complaints or compensation can differ, so check the entity named in the account documents rather than relying on a headline maximum.

ActivTrades operates in the United Kingdom, Bahamas, Brazil, Portugal and Mauritius. Its restricted-country list includes the United States, Canada, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Albania, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Cuba, Venezuela, Zimbabwe, Republic of Congo, Japan, American Samoa, Northern Mariana Islands, U.S. Virgin Islands, North Korea, U.S. Minor Outlying Islands and Democratic Republic of Congo. Eligibility depends on entity and jurisdiction.

Client Protection

ActivTrades says it keeps client funds in segregated accounts with financial institutions, separate from company operating funds. It also states that negative balance protection applies to retail and professional accounts globally. Depending on account type and jurisdiction, the broker describes additional insurance of up to $1,000,000 or €1,000,000.

Eligible UK clients may have FSCS investment protection up to £85,000 per person, per firm. Eligibility and the applicable protection depend on the client and entity. Regulation and account protections do not remove market, leverage or counterparty risk.

Where the range is strongest

The published range includes 1,000 stocks, 49 forex pairs, 31 indices and 22 commodities, alongside ETFs and bonds. The distinction between CFDs and ownership matters: stock and ETF CFD positions do not give the trader ownership of the underlying shares or voting rights. Bond exposure is generally through derivatives rather than direct ownership.

Where it is limited

ActivTrades does not offer a standard retail options product. Crypto availability depends on jurisdiction and is unavailable to UK retail clients. The leverage figures shown are product-level maximum retail figures; actual limits and product access can depend on the legal entity and applicable account rules.

Core Experience

ActivTrader is the broker’s proprietary browser-based platform, with mobile and tablet access. MT4 and MT5 provide desktop terminals as well as web and mobile versions. For users building automated strategies, the full EA and custom-code environment is desktop- or VPS-centric.

Charting

ActivTrader integrates TradingView charting. TradingView supports Pine Script research, strategy testing, alerts and broker-connected discretionary trading, but a Pine Script strategy alone does not enable universal unattended execution through the broker.

Advanced Features

MT4 supports MQL4 Expert Advisors, while MT5 supports MQL5 Expert Advisors and desktop strategy testing. ActivTrades also supports API trading for custom-built programs and provides VPS hosting to clients who meet minimum trading-volume requirements. Copy and social trading are available through a dedicated app powered by Pelican; users can review provider performance and risk indicators and control their allocation.

Mobile Experience

ActivTrader can be accessed through a browser on mobile and tablet, while MT4, MT5 and TradingView have iOS and Android versions. The choice is practical for traders who want mobile access alongside desktop-based automation, but the mobile and browser terminals do not replace the full desktop EA development and testing environment.

Main Platform Trade-Off

Best aspect: A choice of proprietary, MetaTrader and TradingView platforms, with desktop automation through MT4 and MT5.

Main friction point: Full EA development and testing are desktop/VPS-centric, while ActivTrader is browser-based and does not offer an MT-style programmable automation engine.

07

Opening, Funding and Withdrawing From the Account

4.3/5

Account Opening

ActivTrades requires identity and residency verification before an account can be funded or used for real-money trading. The digital KYC process calls for proof of identity, such as a passport, national ID card or driving licence, and proof of address, such as a recent utility bill or bank statement.

There is generally no minimum deposit to open or activate an account, although a USD 250 minimum applies in certain jurisdictions. Higher minimums may apply in Brazil and China. Funding the account in its base currency can help avoid the stated 0.5% deposit or withdrawal conversion fee.

Listed deposit and withdrawal methods include wire transfer, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Visa, Neteller, Skrill, PayPal, Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, USD Coin, Tether, Ripple and Dash. Availability can vary by location and account entity. Card and e-wallet withdrawals are processed within one business day; bank-transfer withdrawals can take 3–5 business days to be credited. Processing time and the time taken by a bank or payment provider to settle funds are not necessarily the same.

ActivTrades generally does not charge deposit fees, but payment providers may impose charges. E-wallet deposits may carry a fee of up to 1.5% in some circumstances. A 0.5% currency conversion fee can apply to deposits or withdrawals in a currency different from the account base currency. Some bank-transfer withdrawals may incur a £9 or equivalent charge, and third-party bank or provider fees may also apply.

Execution and Trading Conditions

4.3/5

ActivTrades is classified as a market maker. Its pricing is floating, and the broker says it generally builds costs into the spread for forex, indices and commodities. Slippage can be positive or negative. The broker permits scalping and news trading, but fast markets can still bring wider spreads and slippage.

Leverage depends on the client’s classification, jurisdiction and instrument. Retail clients under UK, EU and Australian restrictions are generally capped at 1:30 for major forex pairs; eligible professional clients can access up to 1:400 on major currency pairs. The available limit can differ under other entities and for different assets. Review the leverage and margin terms attached to the specific account rather than assuming one maximum applies to every client.

The stated margin-call level is 100%, and the stop-out margin level is 30%. ActivTrades allows hedging; its account settings include an order-handling mode for enabling it. The broker says margin requirements for hedged positions are generally 10%, and daily swaps can apply to both sides of a hedge. Positions held past the daily rollover time can incur or receive financing.

ActivTrades permits automated trading and supports Expert Advisors on MT4 and MT5. Its advertised execution-speed descriptions should not be treated as independently established performance figures; actual results can vary with market conditions, order size and connectivity.

09

Research, Education and Support

4/5

Research and Tools

ActivTrades offers market analysis, trading ideas, an economic calendar, market sentiment and Market Buzz. Trading Central tools and an analytics plugin are available for MT4 and MT5 subject to a USD 1,000 minimum deposit. These resources can supplement a trader’s own analysis, but the tools do not remove market risk.

Education

Educational resources include help and FAQ content, a glossary and market education. The combination is useful for checking terminology and core market concepts alongside the broker’s research tools.

Before You Open an Account

Check these three things first

  1. Your legal entity: Confirm the contracting entity and regulator in your account documents. Leverage, product access and protections can differ by jurisdiction.
  2. Your likely trading cost: Compare the floating spread for your instruments with any share CFD commission, overnight financing and currency conversion charges. Include inactivity fees if you expect to leave the account unused.
  3. Your product and account requirements: Check instrument access for your client type and jurisdiction, along with local minimum deposits and professional-client eligibility.

Bottom line

ActivTrades combines multi-asset CFD access with several established platforms and mostly spread-based pricing. The key decision is whether the entity-specific conditions, product structure and total costs fit the way you plan to trade.

012 — FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions About

Is ActivTrades regulated?

Yes. ActivTrades operates through multiple entities. The UK entity, ActivTrades PLC, is identified under FCA licence 434413. The Bahamas entity is ActivTrades Corp; the number 199667 B is a company registration number, not an SCB securities-dealer licence. The contracting entity and regulatory framework depend on the client’s location.

Is ActivTrades safe?

ActivTrades says it segregates client funds and provides negative balance protection. Eligible UK clients may have FSCS investment protection up to £85,000 per person, per firm. Additional insurance may depend on account type and jurisdiction. These protections have eligibility conditions and do not remove trading or market risk.

What is the minimum deposit?

There is generally no minimum deposit to open or activate an account. A USD 250 minimum applies in certain jurisdictions, while higher minimums may apply in Brazil and China. Access to Trading Central tools and the MT4/MT5 analytics plugin requires a USD 1,000 minimum deposit.

Does ActivTrades charge commission?

Forex, indices and commodities are generally commission-free, with the trading cost built into the spread. Share CFD commissions start from 0.10% of transaction value. Commission exceptions can depend on product, client type and jurisdiction, so check the terms for the instrument and account you intend to use.

Does ActivTrades offer MT4 or MT5?

Yes. Both MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 are available on desktop, web and mobile. Their desktop environments support Expert Advisors; full custom-code development and testing are desktop- or VPS-centric.

How long do ActivTrades withdrawals take?

Card, e-wallet and cryptocurrency withdrawals are processed within one business day. Bank transfers can take 3–5 business days to be credited. These are processing or crediting estimates; provider confirmation and settlement can take longer, particularly for cryptocurrency transfers.
